If you were into the rock music scene in the 2000s, you probably listened to Emo, Screamo, Hardcore, or some other sub-genre you rattled off when the poser listening to Good Charlotte asked you your favorite type of music. Here were some of your most identifying characteristics back then:
- You heard Atreyu’s song “Bleeding Mascara” and immediately used it as your MySpace screen name.
- Alternative Press was your bible.
- You considered slam dancing at a show your workout.
- A guy you were dating offered to give you a pair of his girl jeans because they were too tight for him. (Pre-skinny jeans for men, you hipster.)
- You were pierced. Multiple places.
- Having a funeral like the one in the My Chemical Romance “Helena” video was a life goal.
- You judged relationship potential by what was on the person’s iPod nano.
- Swoopy bangs defined your signature look.
- You downloaded anything by Sunny Day Real Estate, The Used, or Dashboard Confessional.
- There was no such thing as too much black eyeliner.
- You knew Sonny Moore as the singer from From First to Last before he was Skrillex.
- Three words: Vans Warped Tour.
